Neutrophil Count: Neutrophils are a type of white blood cell whose numbers are elevated in the presence of bacterial and other infections, tissue injury and inflammation, stress, certain metabolic conditions, disorders that cause an overproduction of blood cells in the bone marrow, metastatic cancer, and some medications. The neutrophil number is decreased in conditions that suppress production or increase destruction.
Neutrophil Percentage: Neutrophils, a type of white blood cell, typically comprise ~55% of circulating white blood cells. The percentage may be elevated in the presence of bacterial and other infections, tissue injury and inflammation, stress, certain metabolic conditions, disorders that cause an overproduction of blood cells in the bone marrow, metastatic cancer, and some medications. The neutrophil percentage may be decreased in conditions that suppress production or increase destruction.
